You will be expected to offer and deliver technical solutions to meet business and client expectations, to maintain and develop technical expertise and continue to increase technical breadth. Moreover you will act as a technical lead on a range of projects and proposals and communicate complex issues to colleagues and clients. You will also have responsibility for the technical standard of less experienced consultants.
There will be a significant element of project management within the role. This will include the management of costs, performance and spend against budget, quality, deadlines, delivery of reports, presentations and other deliverables. You will be expected to resolve technical and financial queries through consultation with other colleagues. You will have also responsibility for client care as required on projects.
In time you shall be expected to generate your own client portfolio as well as maintaining existing senior level client contacts, negotiating and agreeing commercial terms where appropriate.
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in a planning related field e.g. geography, Environmental science etc. and will ideally hold membership or be working towards membership of the RTPI.
Previous consultancy experience would be preferred however experience in related sectors will be considered. You should also have previous experience in a waste/waste planning environment. In addition you should be able to show experience in one or more of the following work areas; Compiling Planning Applications, Strategic Planning including SA/SEA, Environmental Impact Assessment, Waste PFI planning, Planning Appeals and inquiries and Stakeholder Engagement.
Finally you will have proven technical knowledge in one or more of the following specialisms; Waste and Minerals Planning, Applications, Formulation of Waste and Mineral Development Plans and/or other policy documents, Site Need Alternative and options appraisal and SA/SEA. |

You will be expected to carry out the day to day management of environmental engineering projects. This shall include supporting senior engineering consultants and providing advice to clients both in the public and private sectors on engineering management issues. This shall include but not be limited to the preparation of process and engineering designs, specifications, drawings, tender documents and contract documents of leachate treatment facilities, integrated waste management facilities (including landfills), civil amenity sites, MRFs and in-vessel composting plants.
On the commercial side, you shall be expected to contribute to the development of the business by putting forward ideas, providing constructive feedback and contributing to meetings and group discussions.
You will be educated to degree level in Civil Engineering (or equivalent or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge) and be a Graduate, Associate or Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
Our client is able to consider experienced applicants who have a varying degree of experience and skills relating to those outlined below:
Previous experience in a consultancy environment undertaking design work and/or site supervision would be highly advantageous.Knowledge and experience of process design insofar as it relates to the design of facilities for wastewater treatment, composting, energy to waste, etc.
Knowledge and experience of environmental legislation insofar as it relates to the management of solid wastes and wastewater.
Knowledge and experience should ideally include a reasonable understanding of contract management and documentation, for example the ICE or NEC suite of contracts.
