Senior Consultant - Waste Planning  Flexible

You will be expected to offer and deliver technical solutions to meet business and client expectations, to maintain and develop technical expertise and continue to increase technical breadth. Moreover you will act as a technical lead on a range of projects and proposals and communicate complex issues to colleagues and clients. You will also have responsibility for the technical standard of less experienced consultants.

There will be a significant element of project management within the role. This will include the management of costs, performance and spend against budget, quality, deadlines, delivery of reports, presentations and other deliverables. You will be expected to resolve technical and financial queries through consultation with other colleagues. You will have also responsibility for client care as required on projects.

In time you shall be expected to generate your own client portfolio as well as maintaining existing senior level client contacts, negotiating and agreeing commercial terms where appropriate.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in a planning related field e.g. geography, Environmental science etc. and will ideally hold membership or be working towards membership of the RTPI.

Previous consultancy experience would be preferred however experience in related sectors will be considered. You should also have previous experience in a waste/waste planning environment. In addition you should be able to show experience in one or more of the following work areas; Compiling Planning Applications, Strategic Planning including SA/SEA, Environmental Impact Assessment, Waste PFI planning, Planning Appeals and inquiries and Stakeholder Engagement.

Finally you will have proven technical knowledge in one or more of the following specialisms; Waste and Minerals Planning, Applications, Formulation of Waste and Mineral Development Plans and/or other policy documents, Site Need Alternative and options appraisal and SA/SEA.

Environmental Engineer  West Midlands

You will be expected to carry out the day to day management of environmental engineering projects. This shall include supporting senior engineering consultants and providing advice to clients both in the public and private sectors on engineering management issues. This shall include but not be limited to the preparation of process and engineering designs, specifications, drawings, tender documents and contract documents of leachate treatment facilities, integrated waste management facilities (including landfills), civil amenity sites, MRFs and in-vessel composting plants.

On the commercial side, you shall be expected to contribute to the development of the business by putting forward ideas, providing constructive feedback and contributing to meetings and group discussions.

You will be educated to degree level in Civil Engineering (or equivalent or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge) and be a Graduate, Associate or Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Our client is able to consider experienced applicants who have a varying degree of experience and skills relating to those outlined below:

Previous experience in a consultancy environment undertaking design work and/or site supervision would be highly advantageous.Knowledge and experience of process design insofar as it relates to the design of facilities for wastewater treatment, composting, energy to waste, etc.

Knowledge and experience of environmental legislation insofar as it relates to the management of solid wastes and wastewater.

Knowledge and experience should ideally include a reasonable understanding of contract management and documentation, for example the ICE or NEC suite of contracts.

Soils Controller  South East/Midlands

Leading waste management consultancy has an urgent requirement for a Soils Controller. Key responsibilities will include: making decisions, through the assessment of soil analysis data sheets, where and for what purpose a soil can be utilised at the company’s landfill sites, compliance checking to ensure that soils are accepted in line with current legislation and provide support and guidance to the landfill site management team, waste sales department and restoration management teams. Furthermore you will develop end stage land use models for the company’s landfill sites and use risk based computer models to determine the quality of soils that can be accepted for restoration purposes. You will also update the existing Soils Protocol so that the guidance limits are risk based rather than prescriptive and agree any changes with EA. You will develop and implement a system whereby the quality of the soil imported to the company’s landfill sites can be checked against the analytical data declared by the soil importer and ensure that the company meets with all legislation, authorisation and duty of care in respect to soil importation at all times. Salary to 25k, plus discretionary bonus and company car.

Waste National Account Manager  East/West Midlands

This is a hands-on role that will use your forward thinking and experience in relationship management to ensure the profitability and growth of existing key Hazardous Waste National Accounts. As part of a newly co-ordinated group of Brand and Account Managers, you will manage a number of identified accounts according to Company guidelines. You will also be responsible for developing and winning new national business opportunities by working closely with the general waste national account management team and compiling and presenting new tender submissions. You will also review the database regularly to identify and implement initiatives that will increase profitability and/or retain accounts. Other duties may include production of service delivery/financial reports. Previous experience of managing accounts is essential. Experience in hazardous waste disposal/recycling is desirable. Reliability and a self-motivated, flexible approach to work are also important, as is the ability to multi-task and work as part of a team. Salary to £28k dependant upon skills and experience. The successful candidate will also be eligible to join the pension scheme, have access to a company car or allowance and will receive a discretionary performance related bonus.

You will assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of the Integrated Management Systems for this leading waste management company. Your responsibilities will include amongst others: assisting the Environment and Quality Manager in updating existing, and implementing new procedures to reflect best practices and to maintain and improve customer satisfaction, producing audit and inspection schedules for all activities and ensure that all audits are conducted in line with the schedule and Company procedures, conducting audits of Company facilities against all aspects of the Integrated Management System for health, safety, environment and quality and the associated standards, undertaking and maintaining the management system reviews in line with Company procedures and ISO standards, audit third party companies and suppliers and produce monthly reports on non-conformances and results of audits relating to Company activities. The successful applicant will have a degree in a relevant subject and will have previous experience of working in the waste industry. You should have an understanding of management systems, associated standards and best practice. Furthermore you should have a good knowledge of current legislation relating to the waste industry and how it impacts on the sector. With excellent communication and interpersonal skills you will have the ability to motivate others. IEMA membership is desirable and ideally you will be a EARA or IRQA registered auditor. Salary mid £20k’s+ together with a generous car allowance and other benefits.
