Senior Remediation Consultant Manchester |

Applications are sought from candidates to join the growing remediation team in our client’s Manchester Office. The role involves working alongside the established contaminated land team on a variety of UK and International environmental and engineering led remediation projects.
Responsibilities will include:
· Scoping, detailed design, implementation and supervision of contaminated land remediation projects (including financial and technical management);
· Occasional assistance with contaminated land site investigations and reporting;
· Assisting the business unit manager with expansion of remediation capabilities in the Manchester office and financial reporting;
· Mentoring of junior staff.
The candidate will have in excess of 5 years experience in brownfield site investigation and remediation project management, ideally with an environmental consultancy or a remediation contractor. The candidate will also have a minimum of a BSc and a second degree (MSc or PhD) in a related subject, such as civil engineering, hydrogeology, geology, environmental science or environmental chemistry, and ideally be Chartered, or working towards Chartership, with a recognised institution.
An interest in, and flair for, business development would be an advantage.
The candidate will be based in the Manchester office, but have a willingness to travel within the UK, and occasionally overseas, a necessary.

In this position you will be technically supporting a variety of Water Company Capital Investment Programmes in the UK and abroad. The role will require you to direct a team of geotechnical specialists in optimising scheme solutions and management of ground risks on Water and Wastewater projects. This will be from feasibility through solution identification and development, design, contract documentation, tender assessment through to construction support. You will offer management and guidance to staff undertaking desk studies, site investigation, geotechnical interpretation, analysis, design, input to procurement and construction support. You will play a key role in staff development through effective coaching and mentoring to a structured and accredited training programme.
To be successful in this role you will need to be in regular contact with staff from client and contracting organisations and will therefore need strong technical, communication and commercial skills. You will also be an academically strong Chartered Engineer with proven project experience a MEng degree in Civil Engineering with strong geotechnical options or have an MSc in a Ground Engineering discipline.

The ideal candidate should have a post graduate degree in Mining Geology or related discipline. Applicants should be able to demonstrate an understanding of ore geology, mineral resource estimation and the preliminary economic appraisal of mining projects.
Experience in the collection and interpretation of exploration data, geological modelling, statistics and geostatistics, knowledge of International Mineral Resource and Reserve Reporting Codes would be an advantage, as would a high degree of computer literacy and competence in mining/geological software packages such as Datamine, Surpac, Gemcom, Micromine, or Vulcan.
Excellent communication, technical report writing and project management skills, together with a high level of numeracy, are essential.
This position involves working in multi-disciplinary teams on a wide range of global projects and commodities, including feasibility studies and due diligence mandates. Frequent overseas travel forms a large part of the role and knowledge of a foreign language would therefore be an advantage.

You will have proven experience in geotechnical engineering and other civil engineering fields, preferably with railway experience. You will have experience of commercial, financial, contractual and negotiation matters.
You will have knowledge and experience of geotechnical analysis and design, including desk studies, planning and interpretation of ground investigations, shallow and deep foundation analysis, earthwork and retaining structure design, slope stability analysis and development of remedial measures.
A degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering is essential as is a wide knowledge of geotechnical subjects. You will be seeking or have achieved Chartered status.
Salary £35,000 to £45,000.

You will have a broad range of responsibilities including: providing design solutions and supervision for landfill cell construction, infrastructure and capping / restoration / aftercare projects for active, closed and development landfill sites; Engineering project development, design, value engineering and management; Monitoring and reporting on engineering project performance, programme and budget; Liaison with suppliers, contractors, Environment Agency and other third parties and providing support, advice and guidance to the operational business to ensure that the sites needs are met. You will ensure compliance with planning conditions, PPC Permits and health and safety legislation and the effective management of all compliance related issues. Ideally you will be degree educated and hold a degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Environmental Engineering or related subject (minimum qualification HNC / HND level), have knowledge of current landfill engineering legislation, standards and procedures and have previous relevant experience. A full driving licence is required. Salary is dependant upon skills and experience. |
